November

The Project

PDL Floor Designs is known for creating spaces that blend functionality and style, offering smart flooring solutions and thoughtfully designed architectural features. This month, we had the opportunity to work on a project that reflects exactly that vision, delivering sunshades and canopies that enhance both the look and usability of the space.

We installed six sunshade units, each featuring 8″ shutter blades with a rectangular plate outrigger profile, stacked flat bars for added dimension, and a matching stacked fascia, all finished in standard powder coat colors for a clean, cohesive look. To complement the sunshades, we also installed three Atlas canopies. Two of the canopies feature a 24″ fascia, while one has an 18″ fascia, all crafted from smooth bent aluminum sheets. Deck pan infills and soffits in architectural metal colors provide a modern, polished finish, with frames and fascia in an Anodized Silver powder coat finish to unify the design.

MacArthur Medical Center

MacArthur Medical Center

October

The Project

This month, we’re taking a closer look at our Sunshade installation at MacArthur Medical Center, a comprehensive healthcare facility located at the Westpark Office in Euless, TX. Aiming to provide added comfort to patients, this project includes the installation of 84 sunshades featuring a 3″ shutter infill with five blades each. This setup helps manage sunlight, improves comfort inside the building, and adds a clean, modern look to the exterior.

The system uses a rectangular plate outrigger at 3″ height, paired with a 3″ shutter blade fascia for a smooth and consistent finish. Everything is coated in a Medium Bronze powder coat to ensure long-term durability and protection against weathering.

Overall, the sunshade system enhances both function and design, giving the facility a simple and efficient shading solution that blends seamlessly with the building.

Grateful to have partnered with Talley Riggins Construction Group and Hoefer Wysocki Architecture on this project. Their collaboration and support helped ensure a smooth process from planning to installation.

Renowned for their dedication to excellence, they needed sunshade units that could enhance aesthetics and provide practicality. Leveraging our longstanding partnership and grasp of their requirements, Arch-Fab was chosen for this venture. The task necessitated a solution that flawlessly merged with the architectural design while upholding uniformity across the entire property.

In response to Mycon’s needs for First Park 121, Arch-Fab brought our expertise in shade solutions to the forefront. We conceptualized, manufactured, and installed 18 louvered sunshade units, guaranteeing that each unit precisely matched the project’s criteria and design concept. Through our louvered aluminum sunshade system, we meticulously fashioned these units to introduce dimension, personality, and outstanding performance to the building’s exterior.

This intricate process showcased our ability to tailor our sunshade system, offering adaptability in airfoil blade sizes, finishes, and structural support choices. Our end-to-end approach, spanning from design to installation, ensured a smooth implementation that aligned seamlessly with Mycon’s anticipations.

Benchmark Bank

August

The Project

Rogers O’Brien Construction, a prominent name in innovative construction, approached us with a distinctive challenge for their latest project. Partnering with the esteemed architectural firm Good Fulton & Farrell (GFF), they sought to create a visually captivating element for the Benchmark Bank.

The aim was to enhance the building’s aesthetic appeal while providing partial sunshade. Our relationship with Rogers O’Brien and our close partnership with GFF positioned us as the ideal collaborator to meet their unique requirements.

We conceptualized, designed, fabricated, and meticulously installed a Louvered System for the Benchmark Bank project. We adapted our louvered sunshade product to create a striking visual feature that extended up the building’s exterior and onto the roof. This innovative system seamlessly blended form and function, adding depth and character to the structure while providing practical sun protection.

Our collaboration with GFF on the Benchmark Bank project was an embodiment of our commitment to excellence and innovation. With a shared dedication to pushing boundaries and delivering exceptional results, our partnership thrived. As a result, the Louvered System we provided not only met the aesthetic and functional requirements of the project but also contributed to the bank’s identity as a distinguished architectural landmark.

The synergy between Arch-Fab, Rogers O’Brien Construction, and GFF underscored our ability to translate visionary concepts into tangible, remarkable structures.

Spring Creek Office

Spring Creek Office | Project of the Month

Spring Creek Office

October

The Project

This Plano, TX office building has some unique architectural features to offer patients and visitors. The matte black entryway canopy and anodized silver wall tube screen design elements provide visitors with both practical protection from the elements and a unique visual aesthetic. The vertical wall tube screen also acts as a shield for privacy and further protects cars while under the porte cochere.

The architect on the project reached out to the AEC Representative to confirm the scope and get a proposal started with the Preconstruction team.

The rotunda entrance created a challenge of not only being radiused to the wall dimensions but also to provide integration of two different Arch-Fab systems to meet the architect’s vision. The inner part of the semicircle is soffited in order to provide full sun and rain coverage. The outer part integrates a system more similar to louvered sunshades, offering sun protection and louver elements.

The vertical wall tube screen was an additional scope that was designed to be floating from end to end, so an attachment was required to make this work.

To build the radiused rotunda Atlas, the standard gutter beam that supports the Atlas canopy model was extended to create outriggers for the louvers to attach to. This allowed for both systems to be seamlessly integrated.

In addition to the merging of two systems, it was crucial for Arch-Fab to make sure all parts were powder coated. The gutter beams are typically not visible and are not powder coated to save on cost. In this case, all teams were in communication to ensure all visible parts had a matte black finish.

For attachment of the tubes in the porte cochere, blocking was added by the GC, and we used L-brackets on one side of each tube to create equal alignment of each tube and a strong connection point for the 108″ tall tubes.

6631 Stadium Logistics Center

Stadium Logistics Center | Anodized Atlas Canopy Integrated with Louvered Sunshades

6631 Stadium Logistics Center

June

The Project

Located just down the road from the former Texas Stadium on 183, this CT Realty Investor industrial project is brand new. This project features an integrated Division 10 scope package combining canopies with louvered sunshades, offering full protection from the elements at entries and sun protection at window openings in a visually-appealing design.

Having worked with Talley Riggins and Pross Design Group on several projects previously, it was a natural fit for Arch-Fab to participate in the design, manufacturing, and installation of the canopy and sunshade scope for this industrial project.

The scope included anodized sunshades and canopies. The canopies were integrated into the sunshade units to offer full sun and rain coverage over the doorways while offering the unique visual aesthetics of the sunshades. With concerns about increasing lead times and costs due to the supply-chain challenges, Arch-Fab closely adhered to its “end-to-end” internal processes to ensure a successful outcome for long-standing trade partner, Talley Riggins.

Arch-Fab was able to meet and exceed expectations by completing the project on time and on budget. Because the Arch-Fab team was tuned into the needs of this project, the final Atlas canopies and louvered sunshades aligned seamlessly to create a sharp visual aesthetic for the building entrances, completing another beautiful tilt wall site with leading architect, Pross Design Group.

After initial challenges, the general contract, architect, and Architectural Fabrication were able to coordinate the system to work within the needed timeline while it met the quality standards required by Arch-Fab, trade partner Talley Riggins, and Pross Design Group.

Biolabs

Biolabs - Starry Night Aluminum Trellis | Project of the Month

Biolabs

May

The Project

Biolabs Pegasus Park is a 23-acre, mixed-use office campus designed to bolster local biotech, social interaction, and corporate innovation. Turning an existing business facility into a welcoming, high-tech space for researchers, investors, consumers, and employees is no small task. At the newest Biolabs location, Arch-Fab helped create an environment for more than just work in a stunning outdoor space designed to facilitate collaborative conversations and provide a comfortable place for breaks and lunch. With CRB, Architectural Fabrication utilized new manufacturing technology to bring this vision to life.

Arch-Fab was approached by Design/Build General Contractor, CRB Builders, following their assessment of our expertise in designing and building custom trellis structures, canopies, and sunshades. Biolabs Pegasus Park was a great fit for Arch-Fab with its unique shade structure concept and our ability to perform as an End-to-End Architectural Metals Turnkey Solution.

The main challenge of this project was to design, engineer, fabricate and install a shade feature at the main entrance that created a unique industrial appearance while also establishing an inviting, high-tech aesthetic aligning with CRB’s vision. Rather than a standard walkway or trellis, Arch-Fab’s shade solution was as unique as it was functional, a custom structure featuring a “Starry Night” pattern produced using our newly acquired CNC waterjet cutter.

After developing plans using a standard perforated sheet metal, CRB reviewed completed Arch-Fab projects and inquired about how we could provide a custom panel solution. With the recent purchase of a waterjet machine, we had the ability to download CRB’s proprietary “Starry Night” pattern and efficiently produce custom panels that would be mounted to a standard post-supported trellis structure. This stunning shade structure provides a one-of-a-kind design and an inviting, modern space offering privacy and sun protection.

CRB was very pleased with the final product and is excited to continue collaborating on future projects. Arch-Fab has hosted a Lunch and Learn with the CRB design team and we are currently collaborating on some exciting new projects.
