Registered Professional Engineering Firm (RPEF)

There’s always something new to share at Arch-Fab. Happy Fall from the leader in shade solutions! It’s been a busy 2018 and we’re not done yet!

Last month we lifted the curtain on our newly patented canopy product. This month’s spotlight is on our ability to offer engineering services in house. Architectural Fabrication is now a Registered Professional Engineering Firm, successfully fulfilling the requirements to offer and perform engineering services in Texas and Louisiana! We couldn’t be more excited! We are also actively working towards registering in Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Employee Highlight | Asim Hasan

Meet the newest member of our Design Team, Asim Hasan, PE, MBA. Asim joined the Arch-Fab family in July 2018 as our Engineering & Design Manager. He was born and raised in India and immigrated to the United States 14 years ago. When he’s not working to make Arch-Fab the best it can be, Asim enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children.

He has many years of design experience, and has previously led a team of engineers and drafters, working for both small companies and huge multinational conglomerates. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from UT Arlington in 2008 and his Masters of Business Administration degree from Texas A&M University, Commerce in 2015. He holds Professional Engineering (PE) licenses in Texas and Louisiana and is a Model Law Engineer with NCEES. He is committed to increasing efficiencies in the design process and believes in the use of up-to-date technologies and software in making Arch-Fab lean and efficient.

Asim shares our team’s passion about continuous improvement in our products and processes. Our business is built on offering a “turnkey solution” in Division 10 Exterior Sun Control and one of the ways we can enhance that service to our clients is to have the capacity to site specific seal our projects in house. The ability to provide in house engineering will drive value and decrease engineering lead times by not relying on an outside firm to review and seal our designs. “Safety of the general public is my primary focus.” says Asim, who’s initial efforts have been spent familiarizing himself with the design team, our submittal details and our products.

Please join us in welcoming Asim to the Arch-Fab family!

40 Under 40 | Jeff Kenny Accepting Award

Jeff Kenny, 2018 Honoree

Jeff Kenny joined the Architectural Fabrication team in February of 2010 as General Manager and in March of 2016 Jeff became the President and Owner. Since day one, Jeff has been the driving force behind the sustained growth and continued success of Arch-Fab.

He’s passionate about a culture driven by keeping meaningful promises to our employees, clients, and partners. He casts his vision for Arch-Fab on a daily basis, which is to be “the best shade solution company in the United States.”

When not working hard on being the best leader to the Arch-Fab family, Jeff dedicates himself to being the best father and husband he can be. His wife Shannon and 3 kids Emma, Audrey, and Hunter are the highlight of his life. As a proud father, he can usually be found outside with the kids playing, riding bikes, swimming, or fishing.

On behalf of the entire Arch-Fab family, congratulations, Jeff!

Happy Birthday, Arch-Fab

Happy 22nd Birthday, Arch-Fab!
Today our entire team took a moment to celebrate another trip around the sun! April marks 22 years of service to our architectural and general contracting partners. It was a fun morning, complete with good music, cool t-shirts, and hot breakfast. Our Accounting Manager, Pat, celebrated 20 years with the company, and was gifted with a cruise as appreciation for his years of service!

We also celebrated Helios as an official member of the Arch-Fab product family. For us, Helios was born out of a vision to offer our clients a turnkey and economical solution to providing exterior sun control on a building. Helios was one of our first officially named products and can now be found on thousands of buildings nation-wide.

How did Arch-Fab decide on the name “Helios”? It’s unlikely that you’ll find it on the top list of most popular baby names. In Greek mythology, Helios was the son of Hyperion and Theia. Helios was described as a handsome titan crowned with the shining aureole of the Sun, who drove the chariot of the sun across the sky each day to earth-circling Oceanus and through the world-ocean returned to the East at night.

Helios Sun Canopy Muse

Helios,

You’ve grown and changed in many ways over the years and we’re proud of the support you’ve given to general contractors and architects alike. From the sleepless nights of inception, working through your extruded aluminum design and envisioning all of your potential, to nurturing you as we took our first steps together to integrate lighting, and watching you grow into taller fascia options, decorative reveals and extruded “c” channel fascia’s. Whether you’re mounted on a wall or supported by posts, your character is strong. We’ve seen you take on all types of finishes, from powder coat, to anodize and Kynar. We’ve watched you shine in yellow as bright as the sun, green as a grassy meadow, red as fire, and black as night. No matter what mother earth throws at you, you’ll never rust.

Your future is bright, and you’re loved and appreciated by many for shielding them from driving rains and the brutal rays of the sun. We eagerly await the arrival of your patented brother or sister!

Love,
Your Arch-Fab Family

Holiday Celebrations

Arch-Fab Holiday Party - Dec 2017

It’s December! I know it sounds cliché, but where has the year gone? 2018 is quickly approaching, but we aren’t ready to let go of 2017 quite yet!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year because the 3rd Annual Architectural Fabrication holiday party is upon us. It’s the highly anticipated company event of the year, and absolutely not to be missed. In 2017, we grew by 28 new team members and this holiday celebration may be the last year that we can all fit in the large ballroom inside the beautiful Hurst Conference Center.

A small group of employees worked hard behind the scenes, planning and shopping to make sure this was a joyous event for all.

Arch-Fab Holiday Party - The Planning Committee

The nature of our business at Arch-Fab is fabricating and installing our shade solution products nationwide, so it’s rare that our entire company is “home” on any given day. Our install teams are constantly on the road, and on job-sites, away from their families, helping us keep promises to our clients. This special evening is a time where we take a purposeful pause and enjoy an evening together of food, fun, and prizes.

The casino tables and prizes were the highlight of the evening and our employees went home with some amazing gifts this year.

From electronics to tools, and gift cards galore, there was something for everyone! Think prime Black Friday shopping but better, because it happens without the long lines, standing out in the cold, traffic, or paying.

We work in concert with some pretty awesome vendors and suppliers throughout the year, and we couldn’t do it without their partnership. We are incredibly thankful to Eastern Metal Supply, HRS Fasteners, Mansfield Powder Coating, 3P Powder Coating, Alumet Supply, Richard’s Supply, Kai Bartells, Bonnell Aluminum, National Bolt and Industrial Supply, Southern Stretch Forming, Hilti, Quality Powder Coating, Innovative Industrial Solutions, Bullmack Powder Coating, and Sunbelt Rentals for your generous support and donations to our company party. We look forward to a continued partnership.

From our family to yours, we wish you a joy filled holiday season!

Service to Others

Service to Others - Building a Home for Those in Need

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”
– Muhammand Ali

Our Vice President of Sales, Jeff Cash, recently returned from a 9 day mission trip to Piura, Peru. He had felt a call to serve for the past 10 years, but the business of life continued to get in the way. The recent flooding in Peru presented an opportunity to answer that calling. Our team enjoyed receiving his daily email updates and we’re excited to share his experience with you!

Service to Others - All Girls Orphanage

The first full day of the trip was spent at the mission headquarters in Santisimo Sacramento, Peru at the all-girls orphanage. The orphanage rescues girls from broken and abusive homes and sometimes families from the mountains will bring their daughters here for a better opportunity at life. It was a busy day of volleyball, a recital performance, and a group dance. While no video has surfaced (yet), we hear that Jeff busted out some of his best dance moves. Jeff expressed that while it was difficult for him to be away from his own children on Father’s Day, it was an honor to spend it with those that do not have a father.

As the trip continued, one of the major tasks was to rebuild the pueblos destroyed by the floods. Many people did not survive the floods, and those who were fortunate enough to live lost their homes and all of their worldly possessions were washed away. Currently, many survivors are still living in tents and eager to have something more permanent.

A three bedroom home of bamboo, plywood and grass can be erected for just $550. One of the challenges was digging holes in the sandy soil, and mixing concrete by hand to set the bamboo posts. A total of five homes were completed during this trip. The team also built two new classrooms at one of the schools.
The mission was made possible through generous donations to the St. Joseph’s Peruvian Mission Fund. This Fund provides aid to the community in many forms: housing, medical care, education, trade training, farm assistance, even hospice care. Jeff and his family participate in the “Family to Family” program, where their $300 donation feeds a family in need for an entire year. During this trip, Jeff was able to meet the family he was assisting.

Service To Others - Eda's New Home
Meet Eda and her three children, Kimberly (5), Jeffri (2), and Beysel (9mo). During the trip, Jeff and his fellow missionaries were able to build Eda and her family a new home. Eda’s response to this news was, “Es un milagro.” (It’s a miracle)

After completing the building of Eda’s new home, the families and the missionaries were able to enjoy a meal together at the mission compound. Check out that Arch-Fab hat!

The final day was spent back at the orphanage, where official “Peru vs USA” volleyball matches were played. The match was started by each team singing their national anthem. Peru played to win, and USA lost two 2 of the 3 games. It was time for good byes, knowing that their paths may never cross again.

One person can make a difference; and a small step can make a lasting impact. What actions are you taking to make the world a better place? How are you working to change the lives of others?

Employee Spotlight on Brooke

Brooke Weinzierl - Our Turnbuckle Award Winner!

Our spotlight is focused on Brooke Weinzierl, a member of our design department. We can’t think of a better person to be the subject of one of our first blog post! Brooke joined the Architecutral Fabrication team in May of 2016, after graduating from TCU with a BS in Biology & Psychology. You might be wondering how someone with a degree in Biology & Psychology would end up working for a shade solution company. Keep reading…

Brooke found our job posting on a site called FrogJobs at TCU (site for Career & Professional Development). She didn’t have any drafting experience or knowledge of our products, but was eager to learn all that she could to begin contributing to the team. Our hiring committee was less concerned about her background in drafting and more focused on finding the right type person to join our family. We definitely made a great choice!

Before we brag on Brooke, we should tell you about our “Turnbuckle Award”. In our business, overhead canopy supports, called “turnbuckles” are an integral part of our product design. Not only do they add texture and aesthetic appeal to a building, they also add valuable support. Each month, our company nominates an employee of the month to receive the “Turnbuckle Award”. The winner receives a shiny red mini-turnbuckle, recognition at our monthly company meting, a cash bonus, and a highly coveted front row parking spot.

Brooke was awarded the “Turnbuckle Award” in December of 2016 for her outstanding contribution to the design team, her eagerness to assist other departments with a “can do” attitude, and her pro-active help in getting the office set up after moving to our beautiful new facility. She was also a major contributor to the content on this website!

We asked Brooke what the favorite part of her job was, and here’s what she had to say, “I really enjoy looking at architectural plans and viewing what the client wants and helping them achieve their design intent, because we actually cater to each individual project. It’s fun to put that design into a model and see the finished product installed.” Take a look at one of her favorite projects, The Brickyard

When Brooke isn’t creating submittal packages for our projects, she’s an avid runner, loves boot camp style work outs, she likes attending concerts with her friends.

Congratulations, Brooke! We are thankful for your contribution to our team!
